Finished Shooting Awake

February 19, 2010

Well, that was quick.  We’ve already shot Awake.  Three days, each well under twelve hours.  That’s what happens when you have a DP who’s quick, a makeup artist who’s efficient, and actors who know what they’re doing.

This weekend, I’m passing the footage on to the editor, Blake Hill.  Let’s see if he can keep up the pace.

A Day at the Beach

April 28, 2009

[Editor’s note: I meant to post this last week.  I’m not sure why it didn’t go up.]

Nothing is ever easy.

The end of the movie calls for Shooter and Angel to sit on the beach, watching the sun set over the water.

Being in Los Angeles, this seemed like a simple proposition.  We’re on the west coast, the sun sets in the west; ergo, we go to the beach and roll.

Yesterday, I found, to my surprise, that this is not necessarily so.  I stood on the sand next to the Venice pier, looking out at the horizon, and the sun was to my back.

Turns out, Venice beach curves around like a crecent moon, and we were basically facing southeast.

So, we packed up and moved waaaay down the beach, and managed to at least get the sun setting behind the mountains.  Not exactly what I’d planned, but it still turned out looking pretty.  I think it worked out okay.

Wrapped!

April 25, 2009

We wrapped today at about 9:30, fourteen and a half hours after call. Most of the crew didn’t leave until 10:30.
And now, thanks to their hard work, we are finally wrapped on principal photography!

Thank you to everyone for staying late and finishing our work all in one day. It was a phenomenal efforts.

Also thanks to Janiece, for letting us into her home and cooking us such wonderful meals.

Now, it’s on to post production. Don already has a rough cut of the first act, which I’ll put up shortly. We’ll have a full rough cut within a week.

It ain’t over yet.

Easy Day, My Ass

April 18, 2009

We wrapped at nine, and I’m only just now getting into my car at ten. That’s almost, like, real movie hours.

Don showed us much of today’s footage, and it looks awesome, thanks to the hard working crew and two beautiful performers.

…And Christine isn’t bad looking, either.

Behind the Scenes Photos – Day 1

April 15, 2009

It took a little while, but I’ve finally gotten around to uploading the fantastic behind the scenes photos John Long took for our first day of filming.  It’s a bit of a long slideshow (over 100 pictures), so set some time aside before you watch.

Noir Footage Leaked on the Internet!

April 14, 2009

Here’s a preview of what’s to come:

Thanks again to our professional cast!  This movie is going to be awesome.

(I’m just teasing, guys.  The shoot is going fanastically well.  It looks better than I dared hope and, the above not withstanding, the actors really are doing a great job.)
