Matt’s Making a Movie

April 26, 2010

Welcome to my filmmaking blog.  This is where I keep people updated as to what’s going on with my various short films.  You can find information about the creation of Asleep with the Angels, Awake, and now, Interrogation.

First Cut for Awake

April 25, 2010

It’s finally here!  It’s not done, obviously, but it’s well on it’s way.

If you’ve never seen a rough cut before, prepare yourself.  There’s no music.  The sound effects are rough and incomplete.   The audio is not always understandable.  The color is not corrected.  Basically, this is the worst shape you will ever see this movie in.  It’s all going to improve from here.

Awake – Behind the Scenes

March 26, 2010

Don’t worry, we’re still working on Awake.  Blake’s super busy at work, so we don’t have a rough cut.  In the meanwhile, enjoy some behind-the-scenes photos:

Finished Shooting Awake

February 19, 2010

Well, that was quick.  We’ve already shot Awake.  Three days, each well under twelve hours.  That’s what happens when you have a DP who’s quick, a makeup artist who’s efficient, and actors who know what they’re doing.

This weekend, I’m passing the footage on to the editor, Blake Hill.  Let’s see if he can keep up the pace.

Awake Update

February 11, 2010

Well, it’s been a couple busy weeks.

First, we cast the leads for Awake:

Aren’t they ridiculously good looking?  Don’t worry, JJ is making them look good and ugly for the film.  🙂

We actually shot our first few scenes last weekend, at Melissa’s house.  It went well, and we shot out three pages in under six hours.  (If your wondering, that’s very good.)  Melissa’s lighting is the perfect combination of natural and scary.

Next weekend will be tricker, since we’re doing the day scenes.  Sunlight is very difficult to control when you’re on a tight budget with a limited crew.  After last weekend, though, I have every confidence it’ll turn out great.

The Future!

January 14, 2010

It’s been a while since I’ve posted.  Sorry about that.

The movie is kinda out of my hands at the moment, because Don is working on color correction and effects, which I know nothing about.  (What is this “red” you speak of?)

Here’s the current state of Asleep with the Angels:

Not bad, eh?  Once the gun shots are done, the movie will actually be a, you know, movie.

That being said, I’ve started work on my next project, Awake.  This will be a smaller production, as you can see by the brand spanking new page on the right, which features the script.  Enjoy!
